Abstract
The article examines the views of the Akha and Hani expounded by Chinese scholars Wang Jianhua (Aryoeq Nyawrbyeivq) and Huang Rongsheng (Seedar Ghoeqmaer) – themselves ethnic Akha – in their joint account. The scholars, who have studied genealogies of the Akha and Hani, present their arguments about the process of shaping these peoples. The interpretation of the Akha and Hani genealogies that they propose is novel and deserves closer examination. The author discusses the account in detail and provides a critical commentary on the scholars’ views, as well as his own opinions on the range of issues studied by the Chinese researchers.
