Abstract
This article overviews the traditional role of kava in Oceania. With a mild drug effect, kava is a drink popular all over the South Pacific Islands, making its adopters fight against banning this drink in the Western world. The author draws the views of those who are against or in favour of legalizing kava. The role of kava in the modern environments is also considered in this article.
