[full_description] => В статье анализируются новые подходы и тенденции в изучении военной истории Древней Греции и Рима на примере двух новейших исследований, принадлежащих перу американских авторов Дж. Лендона и С. Фэнг и посвященных той роли, которую в военной организации античных обществ играли специфические моральные ценности, историческая память и культурные традиции. Обе рассмотренные работы хотя и далеки от абсолютной убедительности в своих концептуальных построениях и в ряде конкретных выводов, тем не менее проливают новый свет на, казалось бы, хорошо изученные вопросы и демонстрируют плодотворность приложения к античной военной истории теории и подходов, разрабатываемых в социальных науках и в изучении более поздних исторических периодов.
