Abstract
The article examines the human development index (HDI) of Bashkortostan and identifies the factors that influence its change. The analysis is based on both official statistics and mass surveys. The author explains the decline in the Republic's position in the all-Russian rating in recent years, while maintaining the growth of the HDI, by the unfavorable situation in the region's economy, health and education.
