Abstract
The paper focuses on several aspects of the Russian translation history of Dante Alighieri's “Vita Nova”. Proceeding from the example of the latest Russian translation of the libello (Golenischchev-Kutuzov, 1968), the article analyzes several stereotypes about the early Dante's masterpiece, solidly entrenched in the Russian Dante studies. Certain discrepancies between the Russian grasp of the text and that of the recent international scholarship are noted. Special attention is paid to cause-and-effect relationship between the lack of new critical editions of Dante's works in Russia and what the author diagnoses as a “state of crisis” of the Russian Dante studies.
