Abstract
The paper contains and analyzes materials of the first nationwide theoretic-empiric sociological research which contributed to understanding of mass consciousness and behavior of Russians as they are under the conditions of global financial-economic crisis. What happens to people and a society taken as a whole when typical aspects and peculiarities of daily routines and everyday life change significantly, if only partly? In what way do the day-to-day things combine and interact with the qualitative new social realities? How do those representing different social strata begin (if so) to adapt to a crisis everyday life? In what way does their behavioral motivation change? Does «crisis» type of everyday life affect changes in people's living strategies? The author analyzes everyday aspects of Russians' activity, estimates their reserves necessary in order to survive under the conditions of crisis as well as opportunities to change strategies of their economic behavior, determines fears and threats disturbing Russians most of all, as well as causes and consequences of financial-economic crisis as they are in mass consciousness of Russians. At the same time he estimates whether Russians trust governing bodies. Are they ready to manifest social protest? Is there any interaction between state social and economic policy and public opinion? Comparative analysis of Russians' reaction to default of 1998 and crisis of 2008-2009 is of special interest.
